Introduktion
Vinderup Vold er en afrundet, firesidet borgbanke omgivet af to voldgrave. I alt har der i Vinderups nærhed været otte sådanne mindre voldanlæg. Voldstedet har formentlig været brugt som tilflugtssted i urolige tider. Voldgravene har besværliggjort indtagelsen af voldstedet og det samme har et trætårn på den flade top også gjort, hvorfra man har kunnet skyde mod indtrængende fjender.
Tæt ved voldstedet har der ligget en gård, Vinderupgård, hvor den lokale Marsk (hærleder) Jens Kalf har boet (1274).
I 1913 skrev en senere ejer, Johs. Hanghøj, af Vinderupgård et brev til Nationalmuseet. Johs. Hanghøj overtog ved Vinderupgårds udstykning i 1913 arealet med voldstedet. Han interesserede sig så meget for stedet, at han til museet beskrev det og således er den eneste, der muligvis har gjort væsentlige fund og iagttagelser på voldstedet. Han skriver:
”……jeg har ladet den indre grav uddybe og har herved fundet ved den nordre side nogle store munkesten og noget tildannet egetræ. Lignende træ har jeg også fundet ned den modsatte side. Og mod øst en stor del større kampesten som fortsætter ind i voldens indre. Det tyder også på at munkestenene fortsætter indad……”.
